‘‘“Being in a profession that is constantly evolving allows me the unique opportunity to always be learning more and bringing the best possible care to my patients. I feel privileged every day I get to come to work with a team as dedicated to the Fort Atkinson community as I am. I am grateful for the trust and confidence our patients have given us to provide them with the best possible care.”
Born and raised in the area, it is safe to say Fort Atkinson has stolen the heart of Dr. Shalane Gerard. While growing up, she always knew she wanted a career somewhere in the medical field, but unknowing where that was. After graduating from Fort Atkinson High School and going to college at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, she started to become more intrigued by dentistry. After spending some time job shadowing, it became clear dentists provided a unique opportunity to develop deep and long-lasting personal connections and the impact a dentist could have on a patient’s overall health, emotional health, and self-esteem. Having the opportunity to help someone achieve a healthy smile they feel proud to show off was exactly what Dr. Gerard was looking for in a life-long career.
Dr. Gerard received her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities and pursued her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) through Marquette University School of Dentistry, graduating in May 2019. After practicing for a few years in the Madison area, she transitioned back to Fort in 2022 and joined 201 Waterfront Dental (formerly BKS Dental). Since starting with 201 Waterfront Dental, Dr. Gerard has completed the required certifications to practice orthodontics and provide frenectomies for tongue and lip ties to provide a better quality of life for her patients.
Dr. Gerard is excited to work in her hometown, serving all the friendly and familiar faces. Although she has been involved in many community activities throughout her years growing up in Fort Atkinson, residents may know her best through her years of performing and teaching dance at the Main Street Dance Studio. During her free time, Dr. Gerard still enjoys dancing and staying active. As an accomplished triathlete, Dr. Gerard can be found running, biking, and swimming all over town. She enjoys baking, going on adventures with her husband Josh, spending time with her family and friends, and is an avid puzzler.
